Student Council

Meet our 24/25 Student Council

It's official! Our 24/25 student council has been formed, with an excellent representation of students from grades 10-12. We are also excited to announce that every position has been assigned.

As an HCOS student, we encourage you to reach out to your council members to bring topics, concerns and ideas to them. If you are in grade 10, you can contact the grade 10 rep for instance. Bigger concerns can go directly to the president or vice president.

Students meeting in the synchro course earn credits for the work they are doing, however, we are open to students joining committees and volunteering time to make a different in our school. If you are interested in participating in the creation of the 24/25 yearbook or another committee, please contact Mrs. Allison Miles.

Meetings:

We are excited to announce that grad students can now earn 4 credits by taking student council 10, 11 or 12. If you are interested in taking a student council course and making a difference in your school community complete the student council application and talk to your grad advisor.

In the 24/25 school year, student council has been developed as a weekly synchronous class every Thursday morning from 8-9am starting Sept 26th and ending June 12th.

If you require more information contact the student council teacher: Allison Miles.

In the 2023/2024 school year, HCOS established its first-ever student council, consisting of 18 students who led 16 committees.  Together, they created HCOS' inaugural yearbook, participated in grad orientation week and graduation ceremonies, and organized events including cultural celebrations, community appreciation initiatives and spirit week. The council also hosted contests such as the door decorating contest and raised funds to support future student initiatives, contests as well as student bursaries which will be awarded in the 24/25 school year.

Campaign for President: Oct 9-13th, 2023

Elections are coming up for our first HCOS president. Have your say. Campaign videos will be posted soon with an opportunity for you to vote for your preferred candidate.

The student council will act as the voice of the student body. The council will advocate student ideas, interests and concerns with the school wide community while reflecting the HCOS learner profile of a reflective and adaptable thinker who is inquisitive, discerning and full of wonder at God’s world. They will be an advocate who is responsive to the needs of others, servicing in order to have an impact on a world in need of redemption.

Student council positions will be voted on and assigned in May each year. Bi-elections may be held at the end of the semester if there is a new vacant position.

Members will attend 1 hr weekly meetings: 1 Official council meeting, learning and planning meetings and hear from guest speakers about servant leadership opportunities.

Every member of the Student Council is valuable. Members who are not elected into executive positions may get involved with projects and join committees. To learn more about our council positions and requirements please visit our student council SOPHIE page.
