As a mother to a neurodiverse child and an IE teacher, my role as the IE Academic Advisor is one I understand through and through. My name is Allison Miles, and my passion is to help your children meet their graduation and school completion goals and assist in planning for their future. I look forward to supporting you as you journey through grad and beyond!

Brad Lemon
IE Academic Advisor & Grad Teacher
Brad is married and has 4 children ranging in ages from 10 to 14. Before coming to HCOS, he was a campus teacher in Abbotsford for 13 years. Before that, he taught at international Christian schools in Korea and Portugal, as well as a private school in Japan. He enjoys the outdoors, music, boardgames and spending time with family.
Brad's connection with HCOS runs deep. His wife, Laura, has been a dedicated K-9 Support Teacher with HCOS for seven years. Seeing the impact of the school's mission on his own family is what convinced him to make the leap to HCOS in 2020.
Brad is passionate about serving Christian families. He has a strong desire to equip students with the tools they need to thrive academically, personally, and spiritually. For Brad, this is not just a job—it's a calling and a privilege to partner with HCOS families on their educational journey.
Information for 2024-2025 IE GRADUATES
If your child is graduating from our inclusive education program with a High School Diploma: BC (Dogwood) High School Diploma/Adult Dogwood or School Completion Certificate (Evergreen), please ensure you have spoken to your support team: IE case manager or LSRA/LSC and IE grad advisor. The earlier; the better.

Meet with grad advisor to review courses, discuss post-graduation plans
Sign up for regional GA newsletters for most up to date information regarding grad activities in your region
Enroll in courses for 1st semester or all year courses (linear)

September 2024
Ensure your program meets the graduation requirements. Use planning tracker from grades 10-12 and meet with your IE grad advisor to ensure you are on track for graduation.
Select your courses for the upcoming year.
IE students should develop IEP goals related to Life Skills and Transition Planning. One goal should be learning to self-advocate in related areas (medical, physical, academic etc.)
Please make sure ONE course is activated by Sept 20th, 2024. Course activation can take place any time between May 7th to Sept 20th, 2024.
Contact post-secondary advisors (at colleges or universities that your child will be applying to) to discuss career planning, accommodations and accessibility services.
Review admissions requirements for post-secondary programming to ensure your child has the high school prerequisites to get into their programming of choice.

BC universities- Application for Admission opens, apply directly or go to: https://educationplannerbc.ca Note important dates (such as when the application and transcripts are due, housing application deadlines, or when scholarship applications are due) on a calendar and track them monthly.

Grade 12 students should begin applying for Scholarships and Bursaries offered outside of the school. *Start early.
Book your November Numeracy Assessment and Literacy Assessment with the assistance of your IE Teacher. Complete the online exam request forms and included accommodations as outlined by your IEP and professional assessments. Testing will take place Oct 28-Nov 5th.
October 2024
Meet with your team to ensure the IEP reflects goals and assessments that will assist you in post-secondary. A thorough IEP goes a long way.

Most post-secondary applications are due this month for Fall 2025 entry. Make sure to check dates with the post-secondary, college or trade school that you are applying to.

Grad Orientation week: March 3rd-7th. Geared mostly for grade 8-11 students, but all students, grades 8+ can attend. Prizes will be awarded. Last year's recording of orientation week .

Review how to advocate for accommodations in the classroom and testing at the post-secondary level. Accessible learning centres (at post-secondary) are a good start. They often also offer a week to get used to walking around campus before school starts., Advocacy YouTube links are below.
