Marcus Miller - Graduate of 2014

After graduation from HCOS, I juggled three part-time jobs, one of which was as a marketing assistant / multimedia coordinator for a small technology corporation out in New Westminster. After about a year, I decided I wanted to seriously pursue video and film, so I enrolled in the Television & Video Production program at BCIT. In the two years of the program, I expanded and sharpened my skillset through constant hands-on experience, found my passion in writing, directing, and producing, and really learned the ins and outs of the industry and business. During that time I also won the BCIT Global Television Scholarship, and received the Robert Nason Award for Excellence in Direction of a Television and Video Production. Upon graduating with a Diploma in TV and Video Production, I was offered a full-time job in videography at Constructive Home Solutions Inc., who specialize in building science research and development and education. I’ve been working there for two years now, heading all video production and graphic design for the company.

Meanwhile, I'm pursing my own independent film projects, having participated in Universal Pictures’ Jurassic Park film contest last year, and was honoured to be one of the winners for that. I’m currently in the process of developing an animated short film to get into the film festival circuit too, so I’m excited to see where that leads.

Over the past five years, I’ve realized God’s hand and providence over my life has been huge. He’s helped me overcome countless obstacles and continues to show me that he’s working in and through things even when I don’t immediately see it. If he hadn’t led my family to HCOS, I’m not sure I would have discovered my love for video and filmmaking, or received the encouragement, support, and help I needed to pursue my creative endeavours. He also gave me great teachers who pushed me to use the gifts God gave me for His glory, and for that I’m forever grateful. So thank you!
