UBC Student Recruitment & Advising is hosting a brand new event for prospective high school students from the Kelowna-area looking to attend university close to home. Discover UBC-O is an evening event where high school students and their parents can get detailed information about admissions and student life at UBC's Okanagan campus.

UBC staff and current students from right here in Kelowna at UBC's Okanagan campus will give an hour-long presentation designed to inspire and inform prospective students. After the presentation, our team of advisors and students will be available for questions and discussion.

Connect with UVic!

UVic offers several ways for high school students to connect with the campus, staff and current UVic students.

  • MyUVic Life student blog - popular blog (almost 3 million hits) written by current UVic students for students. Your students are sure to find some interesting and relatable stories to help them to learn more about the university from a student perspective.
  • My First Year @ UVic Facebook group – a space for students to ask UVic questions and chat with other prospective, incoming and current students now, and throughout their time at UVic.
  • Instagram - University of Victoria
  • MyUVic Twitter - A perfect communication tool for you and your students to receive quick responses to your questions. As we say in Student Recruitment, “We’re only a tweet away!”
  • UVic Virtual Tour - Can’t make it to campus for a tour? No problem. Students can take an online virtual tour. This is a great way to experience UVic’s campus from your desktop or mobile device. UVic students will guide you through the places they live and learn, including popular spaces, buildings and faculties. There are 16 stops, each with 360° panoramas, videos and photos.

The UBC Engineering & Architecture Open House is our largest event of the year for any student interested in engineering or architecture. We will be offering cool demonstrations, fascinating lab tours, and informative presentations from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Our advisors, professors, Engineering Design Teams, and current students are excited to welcome prospective students and the community to our UBC Vancouver Campus on Saturday, November 24. Women in Engineering Lunch (11:00am, 12:00pm, 1:00pm)

Girls in grades 10, 11, and 12 interested in engineering are invited to have lunch with us! A panel of women engineers and engineering students will share their experience, followed by a chance to network with current engineering students. More information and registration will be released in early November.

Important Information


Most university require that you have complete four Grade 12 academic courses, including English 12. Every university has a list of the course that they consider "academic". Here are some lists of academic courses from various universities in BC.

At our recent counsellor information events in Kelowna, Vancouver, and Victoria, UBC presented an overview of a new approach to the academic assessment used to make undergraduate admission decisions. The slide deck, along with a video recording of the presentation, are available here:

Please note these changes do not require Grade 11 or 12 students to begin to chart a different academic path than the one they are currently on. The course requirements for all UBC programs are not changing. The new approach does not require your students to do more to gain admission to UBC; in fact, the changes are primarily designed to better recognize many of the positive educational outcomes that your students are already demonstrating.
